[SN 708995] USED FENDER USA / 1976 Precision Bass, Black [03]

[SN 708995] USED FENDER USA / 1976 Precision Bass, Black [03]

A 1976 Precision Bass with an aggressive sound has just arrived!

Fender, the undisputed pioneer of the electric bass.
Since the Precision Bass was released in 1951, it has played a pivotal role in various music scenes throughout its long and storied history.

The model we’ve just received is from the mid-1970s—a particularly popular era in Fender’s history.
Although we couldn’t find the neck or body dates, we determined it was made in 1976 based on the pickup dates (“××××76” ×2), pot dates (Vol: 13776××, Tone: 1377604), and the serial number.
It features materials typical of that era: an ash body and a one-piece maple neck. The body is a matte black finish, and we believe the finish is original. Additionally, there are countless weather checks on the neck and fingerboard, and while there is significant paint wear on the back of the headstock, there were no signs of refinishing or over-lacquering. Not only is the finish original, but the overall worn-in look gives it a truly romantic feel.
The electronics also retain a relatively high degree of originality, but since the pickup on the 1st and 2nd string side showed signs of a broken wire upon arrival, we have rewound it. We have also repaired a broken wire in the tone control.

As mentioned at the beginning, the sound is very aggressive yet feels well-balanced overall. The deep, powerful low end characteristic of the mid-70s is impressive, but it doesn’t run wild—instead, it offers a nice sense of clarity. While the total weight of 5.05 kg makes it a heavyweight, the overall body balance is good, and it’s relatively easy to handle, which is another attractive feature.

No changes appear to have been made to the main components, but one screw for the first-string saddle is slightly stripped. There are also stripped areas on the screws for the pickguard and the pickups.
Additional screw holes have been added for the pickup and bridge fences. Furthermore, there are holes on the pickguard and the front of the body whose purpose is unclear, though they appear to be the same size as those for the aforementioned fences.
There is a small sticker mark on the back of the body.
Although it currently functions normally, the tuning pegs have become somewhat stiff due to age. One of the screws securing the 3rd string peg has been replaced.

In addition to the above, there are small and large dents and scratches scattered throughout the instrument, indicating signs of use, but the neck is currently in good condition. The truss rod is slightly tightened, but there is still plenty of room for adjustment.
Regarding the frets, about 50% of the original height remains, and while they have become noticeably flat due to wear, they do not pose any issues for playing at this time.

A vintage guitar that’s ready to rock! Don’t miss this opportunity to get your hands on it!
