[SN 639883] USED GIBSON USA / 1971 Les Paul Recording [03]
The Les Paul Recording was produced for only about nine years, from 1971—when production began—through 1980.
As the most innovative Gibson guitar of its time, this model features groundbreaking controls.
The guitar we’ve just received is a rare specimen believed to be from 1971, the very first year of production!
The body features a mahogany/maple/mahogany pancake construction.
The neck is a 3-piece mahogany design, and the fingerboard is made of rosewood.
While the "Wide Traveler Bridge" is typically installed, this particular instrument features the "ABR-1" bridge specification that was used in the early days of production in 1971.
The Gibson patent number is engraved on the back, confirming that these are original parts.
It is also equipped with original Grover tuners.
It is equipped with two original low-impedance pickups.
These innovative pickups, developed by Les Paul, feature coils coated in epoxy to reduce feedback and produce a wide dynamic range.
The controls consist of four knobs: Master Volume, Decade, Treble, and Bass.
Please note that the Decade control is normally active when the high-impedance setting is selected; it is designed to cut the high frequencies using an 11-position rotary switch, but please be aware that it is currently not functioning.
The two switches are a phase switch and a high/low output selector switch.
In addition to the pickup selector switch, a 3-way lever switch is installed, with the following settings: 1: Volume and Decade only active; 2: All controls active; 3: Treble and Bass only bypassed.
We have determined that the other pots (VOL, TREBLE, BASS) are original to the instrument based on the date.
VOL:13-----
TREBLE: 1377130
BASS: 1377130
Regarding the condition, there are numerous scratches and dents. The back of the body has paint peeling, the back of the neck has a dent, and there is a chip in the wood at the tip of the headstock.
Additionally, while the frets are low, there are currently no issues with playability.
While it shows significant signs of use, the original parts have been preserved, and it is in good condition for its age.
This is a rare early-production Les Paul Recording, said to have been a favorite of Les Paul himself!
As this is a rare model, please consider taking advantage of this opportunity!
